Programs of Study

Psychotherapy Clinical Fellowship

The Fellowship offers early and mid-career clinicians an opportunity to study and improve their skills in the psychotherapy of adults using psychoanalytic principles. In this two-year program, Fellows will treat adults in ongoing psychotherapy, some at multiple times a week, under the supervision of a psychoanalyst, and participate in an educational program designed to enhance clinical learning.

A clinician’s professional development takes place over a lifetime as one learns, practices, refines skills, discovers new ideas, observes changes during therapy, hears from colleagues, tries out different approaches and listens to what patients say. The Psychotherapy Clinical Fellowship aims to support clinicians as they form and firm up their professional identity. It will establish a foundation for lifelong learning.

The Fellowship now offers two tracks: part-time or full-time. All fellows will receive supervision and case conference learning opportunities with a psychoanalyst, as well as access to CPI’s Library, PEP Web Archive, office space in the Loop, and HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform use. Fellows are also invited, as guests, to attend select Institute meetings and continuing education programs. Upon successful completion of the program, Fellows may take their patients with them as long as they are either licensed to practice independently, or have obtained appropriate supervision for ongoing work
