(2001) Titration in the Treatment of the More TroubledPatient. Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association 49:891-908AbstractThis article defines and discusses a modification of technique recommended by theauthors in the psychoanalytic treatment of more troubled patients; a modification theycall titration. Titration is defined as a conscious decision by the analyst to increase ordecrease assistance (or gratification) gradually\, in order to facilitate the analytic \n\n\n\nprocess. The authors emphasize the complexity of decisions in treatment by focusingon the decision-making processes that titration requires. Guidelines and a case vignetteare presented. The authors conclude by considering some of the politics involved in theintroduction of technique modifications\, the salience of the titration concept\, anddirections for further exploration. \n\n\n\nEducational Objectives: \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nThe presenter has  no relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies to report. \n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants are asked to be aware of the need for privacy and confidentiality throughout the program.
