Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Thought
Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Thought is a year-long program of study that provides a foundational education in the essentials of psychoanalytic thought, theory and practice as it has evolved over the years. Students from varied backgrounds come together in a vibrant learning community. The students engage in a deepening psychoanalytic learning process that gives them the tools to shape the psychoanalysis of the future.

This program is open to mental health clinicians, professionals from allied disciplines, college graduates and others interested in psychoanalysis.

Description
The Fundamentals Program is an innovative effort by the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute. Both students and faculty have found it to be an invigorating addition to our educational programming, providing more flexible options for study and an exciting, up-to-date curriculum that surveys the evolution of psychoanalytic theory and practice, its core theoretical ideas and concepts and provides an introduction to the broad power of psychoanalytic thinking to understand and explain human behavior.
For students in our Psychoanalytic Education and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy programs, the Fundamentals Year is the first year of training. Other Fundamentals students take this course of study as a free-standing program. If they decide to pursue more advanced clinical training, they have the option to transfer into either the psychoanalytic or psychotherapy programs with advanced standing.
Continuing Education Units will be granted to Physicians, Psychologists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists based on attendance.

Continuing Education Accreditation
