Psychoanalysis is a therapeutic treatment based upon the idea that people are frequently motivated by unrecognized wishes and desires that originate in one’s unconscious. Through techniques such as free association (speaking what comes to mind) and dream analysis, an analyst will help you create meaning from your unconscious processes. Psychoanalysis typically requires meeting in person 3-5 times a week, lasts for 2-3 years minimum, and is generally not covered by insurance.
