I have been a psychotherapist with Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute for the past 35 years and the Barr Harris Children’s Grief Center for the past 29 years. I work with Adults experiencing a wide range of issues; helping them explore their emotions, relationships, working through challenging, complex experiences, and achieving greater self understanding. I have treated children from age 3 through young adult as well as their parents or caretakers. I have worked with children experiencing a variety of types of loss such as death of a family member (or friend, teacher, other significant person), children who have experienced traumatic loss such as homicide or suicide, children whose parents are divorcing, children who have been placed in the foster care system or have been adopted, children who have been separated from a parent who was incarcerated, children who have been separated from a parent who was deported and children who are experiencing the terminal illness of a family member. My approach with children is to utilize play therapy as a means for the child to express their many complicated feelings. I help facilitate the mourning process with the child at their own pace and as they are able to tolerate and express their difficult feelings. I developed an intern program for students in Clinical graduate programs 20 years ago. Additionally, I provide workshops and seminars on trauma and loss in a variety of professional settings.
