Erika Schmidt Essay Prize: Psychoanalysis in the Clinical, Social and Cultural Worlds

First Prize $5,000.00
Second Prize $1,500.00

During her tenure, the former president of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, Erika Schmidt, continually sought to advance the ways in which psychoanalytic principles and ideas might serve the needs of the larger world. In this spirit, we solicit papers that illuminate social, cultural and/or clinical issues from a psychoanalytic or interdisciplinary perspective. We are looking for original papers that make use of psychoanalysis to enhance our understanding of some aspect of subjectivity and the social world; that explore the application of psychoanalysis to community or social issues; and/or that explore the relationship between the clinical encounter and larger social trends.
