CHICAGO PSYCHOANLYTIC INSTITUTE
1932-2022
A 90th YEAR CELEBRATION

90 years ago, the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis opened its doors under the directorship of Franz Alexander.  Alexander was the first graduate of the Berlin Institute, had been recognized for his creative scholarship, was acquainted with Freud and brought the prestige of the emerging discipline of psychoanalysis to Chicago.  This storied history of scholarship, clinical practice, research and expanding the boundaries of analytic ideas has been a hallmark of the Chicago Institute since its inception.

Now renamed the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute to reflect the scope of its mission, CPI offers a newly revised curriculum for all its education programs with a contemporary approaches to theory and practice; a Treatment Center that provides fee-adjusted therapy to children, adolescents and adults as well as training for interns in mental health fields;  a Schools Initiative that provides on-site services in schools; a psychoanalytic library and archive; and an active, engaged group of faculty and students who are contributors to the field and will participate in the shaping of the discipline of psychoanalysis as the Institute approaches its 100th anniversary.

To recognize the first 90 years, we present a series of videos that feature Institute faculty discussing facets of its past, present and future.
