Consultation Services

Virtual Spring Benefit

The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute offers flexible and targeted consulting to businesses, organizations, schools and leaders designed to help them understand and manage the psychological forces that underlie and effect decision making, leader performance, employee functioning, group and team success and school or organizational environments.

An emotionally healthy work environment is essential to optimal performance, but the forces that contribute to its vibrancy or detract from its cohesion are often hidden beneath the surface.

Long before the concept of emotional intelligence was popularized, psychoanalysts studied and elaborated a deep understanding of the role of emotion and other psychological factors such as motivation, values, ambition and temperament in shaping human behavior. For decades prior to the “discovery” of behavioral economics, psychoanalysts dug down deep into the unconscious mind of both individuals and people in groups, exploring how to identify and manage the irrational unconscious forces at work whenever human beings get together to work or learn. The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute’s Consultation Service makes this expertise available to the Chicago business, not for profit and educational communities.

COVID Recovery Consultation

The Institute has assembled a team of psychoanalysts ready to help businesses understand the complex psychological impact of the COVID pandemic on their employees and develop an effective response that minimizes employee downtime, turnover or decreased performance.

Experts at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute noted a gap in the thinking and services being offered as businesses and organizations adapt to the changed circumstances of the pandemic. Leaders and managers need to know about and know how to plan for the subtle but profound psychological tensions that can affect their own judgment and decision making and their employees’ ability to function at an optimal level. These tensions include issues of confronting profound uncertainty, managing loss and grief while still trying to work, differences in experience based on socioeconomic status and race, risk taking and shaken confidence in leadership.

Many mental health organizations have stressed the risk of higher than usual incidence of depression and anxiety disorders. Other sources have suggested wellness programs to help employees cope with increased levels of stress. While these approaches are important, they fail to fully address the complex human consequences of this difficult time.

The Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute provides expert psychoanalysts to meet with C-Suite executives, employee teams or management groups. Services are never pre-determined, but rather always tailored to the individual and specific needs of each client.
