David Terman

MD

David Terman MD began his practice in psychiatry and psychoanalysis in 1963 and has been a Training and Supervising Analyst since 1979. He is currently retired from clinical practice. Though he is emeritus, Dr. Terman continues to supervise and teach at the Institute. He is a Past President of the Institute.

Affiliations:
Dr. Terman has been deeply involved in the development of Self Psychology and was among the early psychoanalysts who learned self psychology from Heinz Kohut. He has written articles over the past 50 years that have explored and extended the theory and practice.

He actively works with grass roots efforts, predominantly in Wisconsin, to increase voter registration by contacting and registering voters.

Education:
Dr. Terman received his psychoanalytic training at the Dhidgo Institute in 1963 and graduated from the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute in 1972. He received his bachelor’s degree and MD from the University of Chicago. He interned at the Philadelphia General Hospital and completed his residency at the Michael Reece Hospital Psychosomatic and Psychiatric Institute. After his residency, he served as the Assistant Director of outpatient psychiatry at Michael Reece.
